The Old Brewery Mission and Foundation are deeply saddened by the passing of one their Patrons of Honour, Mrs. Patricia Mackenzie, and extend their heartfelt condolences to her family.
Mrs. Mackenzie was named Patron of Honour in recognition of her long-time commitment to bettering the lives of her fellow citizens, particularly those of Montreal’s homeless women.
Indeed, Mrs. Mackenzie was a pioneering contributor to the cause of impoverished, marginalized women. In 1996, with the help of her husband, Mr. Donald Mackenzie, who passed away in 1999, as well as Mr. Morrie Cohen and other notable philanthropists, she propelled the opening of a safe haven in the city for vulnerable women: the Mission’s Patricia Mackenzie Pavilion.
Today, the Patricia Mackenzie Pavilion is Canada’s largest resource for homeless women, providing life-saving services to nearly 600 women in Montreal every year, as well as an array of transition and affordable housing programs to help them rebuild their lives.
