Hello, neighbours!

We’ve never spoken.
Yet you might think I’m going to make noise.
That I’m going to be a nuisance.

Since I’ve had a place of my own,
I’ve found a community again,
and things to do. Things are looking up.
Social housing is helping me
find my place again.

Thank you for welcoming me,
and I look forward to running into you
around the neighborhood.

On the Old Brewery Mission

The Old Brewery Mission, which has been active in Montreal for 135 years, works to break the cycle of homelessness. Its three-pronged approach—prevention, emergency services and rehousing—provides vulnerable individuals with a continuum of services and long-term solutions.

Homes that bring people together

At the Old Brewery Mission, we believe that to make a lasting impact on homelessness, we must first build tailored spaces where people can finally settle down.

By building and renovating housing with support, we can help people get an address, gain stability, restore their dignity and find a place for themselves in the community.

Well-integrated housing doesn’t divide a neighbourhood: It strengthens it, by making it more inclusive, more balanced and more vibrant.

Our housing

The housing crisis we're facing in Montreal makes it all the more difficult for people experiencing homelessness to find a place to live. That's why the creation of community housing, whether through new construction or renovation, is one of the three pillars of the Old Brewery Mission.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Services:

What is the Old Brewery Mission’s social housing with support?

It is subsidized housing where a person is a tenant in their own home. At the same time, they receive flexible psychosocial support to maintain their residential stability and keep them from ending up back on the street.

2. Residents:

How will tenants be chosen?

Tenants will be chosen through a selection process. Each person’s situation and goals will be analyzed in-depth. Our frontline teams will then provide personalized guidance according to the degree of urgency and the specific needs of the people seeking assistance, and refer them to the appropriate service. Tenants will have to meet strict criteria developed by the Old Brewery Mission.

3. Vision and objectives:

Why here?

Having social housing in the neighbourhood is about strengthening the local quality of life, stabilizing the housing market and creating a more dynamic, safe and resilient neighbourhood.

It is estimated that over 5000 people are experiencing homelessness in Montreal. The solution proposed by the Old Brewery Mission works: we must build social housing, keep rents low and offer support to tenants so that they can maintain their residential stability.

The Old Brewery Mission and its real estate development team work hard to find the optimal sites for a new social housing building.

What can I do to help integrate social housing into my neighbourhood?

You’re already doing a lot! Read up about it, welcome without judging, talk about it with your entourage or show your support when a social housing project is announced near you: these are all concrete ways you can help Montreal become a more inclusive and balanced city.
