The Old Brewery Mission has officially renamed the Les Voisines de Lartigue Pavilion the Fulford Pavilion, thanks to a major donation from the Fulford Foundation. This new name honors more than 150 years of commitment to vulnerable women.
On June 3, 2026, the Fulford Residence, the Old Brewery Mission, and the community sector gathered to formalize the name change, marking the beginning of a new chapter for Fulford and services for marginalized women in Montreal.
Founded in the 19th century by Mary Fulford, the Fulford Residence long provided guidance and protection to women arriving from abroad to work as governesses, teachers, or in other roles. It later became a home for elderly women living alone or in precarious situations, continuing its mission until its closure in 2021.
In 2025, the Fulford Residence’s board announced $7 million in donations, including $2 million to the Old Brewery Mission to support services for women and create the Fulford Pavilion.
Open since August 2022, the Fulford Pavilion offers 12 studio apartments for women who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, providing individualized psychosocial support and a pathway to permanent housing. It is part of the Old Brewery Mission’s continuum of services and strengthens our expertise in women’s housing.
The Fulford Pavilion is located just steps away from the Patricia Mackenzie Pavilion, the Old Brewery Mission’s emergency services facility for women.
The Fulford Residence donations also enable Chez Doris to renovate and reopen the Fulford Residence on Guy Street, as well as financing its future operations. Together, our two organizations carry forward the spirit of compassion and solidarity that has defined Fulford’s history for over 150 years.
